Noonan promises to deal with joyriders

Fine Gael is reiterating its promise to bring in minimum mandatory sentences for joyriders convicted of causing death by dangerous driving.

Michael Noonan made his pledge in Shannon following the death of Tania Noonan last night.

Mr Noonan insists that he tried to deal with this problem as Minister for Justice in the mid-eighties and is prepared to deal with it again.
