Two men were stabbed to death in separate attacks early today, police in Northern Ireland said.

A 34-year-old man was stabbed to death in north Belfast and a 51-year-old in Newtownards, Co Down.

The first man died in hospital after an attack in the Old Park Road area at around 3am said the Police Service.

The death was not believed to be linked to the sectarian violence in the area.

Meanwhile four people were being questioned about the killing of the 51-year-old in Newtownards.

He was stabbed to death in the Inisharoan Court area of the town.
