Andrews leads Red Cross Middle East mission

Former Foreign Affairs Minister David Andrews is to lead at Red Cross fact-finding mission to examine the needs of the civilian population in the Middle East.

Mr Andrews, who is also chairman of the Irish Red Cross, will visit both Israel and Palestine during his three-day trip, which begins tomorrow.

“My purpose in going is to assess the need on the ground, to promote respect for international humanitarian law and Geneva Conventions to prevent further innocent lives being lose and to highlight the work of the Red Cross to the Irish people and win their support for our appeal to help

those who have already been injured,” he said.
