PDs to lose seat in Galway west - poll

An opinion poll in Galway west has predicted that the Progressive Democrats will lose their seat in the constituency in the upcoming general election.

The IMS poll, published in today’s Irish Independent, predicts that Fianna Fail Senator Margaret Cox will take Bobby Molloy’s seat, giving Fianna Fail three of the five seats in Galway west.

The PDs are running three candidates in the constituency, but the highest rating any of them received in the IMS poll was 3% for Noel Grealish.

The combined Fianna Fail support was 51%, meaning Frank Fahey and Eamon O’Cuiv should be elected on the first count.

The poll also showed that Fine Gael’s Padraic McCormack will struggle to retain his seat with 8% support, while Labour’s Michael D Higgins has 12%.

Rosemary ‘Dana’ Scallon received 4% support in the poll.
