Police and British troops have come under attack in the North this evening as rival gangs clashed in north Belfast.

Police and British troops have come under attack in the North this evening as rival gangs clashed in north Belfast.

Blast and petrol bombs were used during the riots on the Ardoyne Road and when the police tried to intervene they were attacked by about 150 youths.

The police were attacked with petrol bombs, stones, fireworks and other missiles.

The officers fired off a number of plastic bullets before the rioters were quelled and police sources say the area remains quiet but tense.
