‘No evidence' of IRA campaign

There is no evidence that the IRA is poised to resume its terror campaign, Northern Ireland Secretary John Reid insisted today hours after it emerged that a republican hit list had been found.

In the wake of the discovery in Belfast of the list which contained details of senior Conservative politicians, Dr Reid demanded an end to all intelligence gathering by terror groups.
