TJ Maher, a former MEP and former president of the Irish Farmers Association, has died aged 82.

TJ Maher, a former MEP and former president of the Irish Farmers Association, has died aged 82.

Mr Maher was a leading campaigner for farmers’ rights in the 1960s and went on to hold the positions of president of the National Farmers Association and subsequently the IFA.

The Co Tipperary native was also elected as an independent MEP for Munster in 1979, a post he held for 10 years.
