Students campaign for weekend election

Students have posted 5,000 postcards through Government Buildings letterboxes, calling on Bertie Ahern to hold a weekend election.

The move is part of a campaign to have polling on a Saturday to allow them time to travel home and vote.

It comes as the National Youth Council published a poll showing that only 50% of Ireland's 18-24 year olds intend to vote in the next election.
