The body of a man has been found washed up on a beach in Belmullet, Co Mayo.

The body of a man has been found washed up on a beach in Belmullet, Co Mayo.

The body, which was discovered by the Ballyglass coastguard at around 5pm, is believed to be that of a local man in his 40s who went missing last night.

The body has been taken to Castlebar General Hospital for a post mortem examination.
