ASTI withdraws proposal to rejoin ICTU
The Association of Secondary Teachers has withdrawn a motion on rejoining the ICTU from the agenda at its annual conference in Bundoran, Co Donegal.
Delegates were due to debate the motion today, but the five ASTI branches which had submitted the proposal withdrew it this morning.
The move caused consternation in certain sections of the union, with around 30 delegates standing up in the conference hall and voicing their opposition to the withdrawal.
The ASTI left the ICTU two years ago to pursue its long-running campaign for a 30% pay rise.
