Desmond Connell gives his reaction to Comiskey resignation

Cardinal Desmond Connell and Archbishop Sean Brady have issued a joint statement following today’s shock resignation of the Bishop of Ferns, Dr Brendan Comiskey.

The pair said that they were deeply saddened by Dr Comiskey’s resignation and they condemned the "grave and repugnant evil of child abuse by priests" while admitting that the affair had damaged the Catholic Churches’ reputation.

The pair also offered their profound apologies to the victims of Father Sean Fortune.
