Taoiseach expresses concern to Arafat by phone

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has spoken by phone to President Yasser Arafat in his Ramallah compound.

During the conversation Mr Ahern expressed concern at the unacceptable position in which President Arafat has been placed.

Ahern also appealed to him to do all in his power to prevent further violence.
