No danger to Special Olympics - Harney

The Tanaiste has insisted that the Special Olympics will go ahead.

However, Mary Harney claimed that if the full facts surrounding the contract for the National Aquatic Centre had been available to cabinet, different decisions may have been made.

But she denied that the current controversy has anything to do with politics or personalities.

Earlier, chair of the Special Olympics Denis O'Brien, said the games could be put in jeopardy by the row.

Ms Harney said she remains committed to the Special Olympics, but the process for the pool contract must be examined.
