The Tanaiste has told the Dail she is worried that proper procedures were not in place for the awarding of the contract for the aquatic centre at Sports Campus Ireland.

Mary Harney's comments come as the chairman of the project, Paddy Teahon, prepares to appear before the Dail's Public Accounts Committee.

"My concerns about this matter relate to the fact that appropriate processes were not in place for the expenditure of huge sums of public money," she said.

"This was a 30-year contract awarded to a company that had no trading record, which was a requirement, and when the Government made decisions it did not have the fullest information."
