Adams requested to appear before US congressional committee

A US Congressional committee is asking Sinn Fein’s Gerry Adams to appear and answer questions about alleged IRA activities in Central America.

The House Committee on International relations is holding hearings next month and Mr Adams has been asked to attend.

Four other people have also been asked to appear, including Colombia’s Head of Police.

Chairman of the Congressional Committee, Republican Henry Hyde, says they will be asked about possible connections with the FARC rebel group.

Sinn Fein say they have nothing to hide and no case to answer.

Three suspected Sinn Fein members Martin McAuley, James Monaghan and Niall Connolly were arrested in Colombia in August.
