The National Safety Council has appealed to motorists to take extra care on the roads this weekend in an effort to avoid any fatalities.

Thousands of people will be travelling throughout Ireland this St Patrick’s weekend and the NSC is hoping that last year’s zero death toll over the same weekend can be repeated.

It has urged motorists to slow down, not to drink and drive and to wear a seatbelt at all times.
