The Eastern Regional Health Authority has said hospitals in its area are coping well, despite a work-to-rule protest by nurses in accident and emergency departments.

The ERHA said the public has responded well to requests to avoid casualty wards if possible. It also said a number of elective admissions have been deferred and patients are being given alternative appointments as soon as possible.

Children’s hospitals are not affected by the action.
