New arrest in Omagh bombing probe

Gardai have arrested another man as part of their investigations into the Omagh bombing.

The man in his 30s was arrested at noon in Dundalk.

He is being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Carrickmacoss garda station in Co Monaghan.

Three people also questioned this week in connection with the 1998 atrocity have been released without charge.

Only one man, publican Colm Murphy, has been convicted in relation to the bombing.

The Dundalk man was sentenced to 14 years in prison last month for conspiracy to cause the explosion.

Garda Commissioner Pat Byrne and his Northern Ireland counterpart Ronnie Flanagan last week vowed that the investigation was still ‘‘very live’’.

A woman pregnant with twins was one of 29 people killed in the attack on the Co Tyrone market town in Northern Ireland on August 15, 1998.
