Euro forgers target 50 businesses in Dublin

Around 50 businesses are believed to have been hit by forgers last week, according to a Sunday newspaper.

The newspaper says two criminal gangs are behind the scam, which involves counterfeit €10, €20 and €50 notes. One bank clearing house said it had dealt with 25 cases of forgeries in the previous five days.

Gardai said some of the forged notes were sprayed with sunscreen oil to prevent detection under ultra violet light.

The two suspected gangs are based in south-west Dublin and in the Edenmore area of north Dublin.
