The Irish Refugee Council has said maternity hospitals must be given more powers to deal with the increasing number of asylum seekers who arrive in Ireland to give birth.

It follows a tragic case where a Nigerian woman was taken to Dublin's Holles Street maternity hospital in labour and in a coma.
