Belfast port staff shortages blamed for foot-and-mouth outbreak

A shortage of staff at Belfast port is being blamed for the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the North last year.

A report out today says staff shortages at the port meant a consignment of inspected sheep was not checked because no officials were on duty at the time.
