The Green Party leader, Trevor Sargent, has urged the leaders of Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Labour parties to join him in signing an ‘anti-incineration’ pledge.

According to Mr Sargent, all three of these parties have pro-incineration policies but many of their members openly speak against this form of waste management.

Deputy Sargent says that the Government has not done enough to develop recycling facilities here and that this lack of action is endangering Ireland’s green image.

Mr Sargent proposes this anti-incineration policy could be used to prevent rising waste disposal costs and further damage to the environment.
