Cork attack victim is Limerick native

A major investigation is underway in Cork following a vicious attack on a Limerick student in the city centre this morning.

A major investigation is underway in Cork following a vicious attack on a Limerick student in the city centre this morning.

The victim was set upon in the Grand Parade area.

He is being treated for serious head injuries.

His family has travelled from Limerick and is at his hospital bedside.

A friend of the victim who witnessed the attack is being treated for shock.

Gardai believe a number of other people were involved in the incident.

The scene has been cordoned off and is being examined by forensic experts.

The attack was the second serious assault in Cork city centre in the past three weeks.

A 27-year-old man from Togher, in Cork city, who was attacked on January 28 in a lane close to where last night’s incident happened, is still on a life support machine.
