Support for famine ship from Minister for the Marine

The Minister for the Marine, Frank Fahy, has confirmed that he still supports the proposed famine-ship, the Jeanie Johnston.

The construction of the vessel has been halted because the project has run well over the projected budget for the project.

The Department of the Marine has been to the fore in the project, donating almost €4m to the project.

Deputy Fahy stressed that the public funds had been spent properly, going towards the completion of the vessel.
