Domestic violence 'main cause of injuries to women'
Domestic violence is the main cause of physical injury to women, according to experts at a conference on women's health.
It is the main reason that physically-injured women seek medical attention, according to the data.
A conference on women's health in Dublin Castle today will be told that those working in the health service "need to treat more than just the injuries".
Women's Aid spokesperson Rachel Mullen said doctors need to recognise that the response needed will vary from woman to woman.
"For some women, just having their doctor believe them and support them is enough. For others taking legal action, it is important that the doctor records their injuries, so that they can prove they happened in court," she said.
