Finucane widow slams delay in appointing judge

The widow of murdered Catholic solicitor Pat Finucane has accused the Irish and British Governments of delaying the appointment of an international judge to investigate the killing.

The appointment was agreed at negotiations last August.

The two Governments agreed that a judge would be brought in to decide whether a public inquiry were needed into allegations that the British security forces colluded with the loyalist paramilitaries who shot Mr Finucane dead in front of his family in Belfast in 1989.

However, Geraldine Finucane said today that nothing has been accomplished in the six months since the announcement was made.

"I’m being asked if I am accepting this appointment of an international judge or if I'm rejecting it and I can’t say one way or the other because there’s nothing there for me to make a decision on," she said.
