Debts scupper famine ship project
A project to replicate one of Ireland’s famine ships and sail it across the Atlantic was today set to be scrapped after it ran more than €10m over budget.
The replica craft, the Jeannie Johnston, being built at a shipyard in Co Kerry, is already near completion and is moored beside a pier on the south-west Irish coast awaiting a signal to head for the United States.
