Waiting lists for driving tests halved

The Minister for State at the Department of the Environment, Bobby Molloy, announced today the halving of the numbers of people awaiting driving tests.

The Department of the Environment has responsibility for issuing driving licences and today it revealed that the figures on the waiting list has dropped from 102,000 in May 1999 to 49,200 at the beginning of this month.

This means that the waiting time for a driving test in Dublin and Cork is now under ten weeks, despite and increase in the numbers of people applying for the test.

The reduction in the waiting time has been attributed to the Department’s decision to increase the number of testers and several other measures.
