The Minister for Finance has said the AIB fraud raises serious questions about the management of bank's subsidiary in the US.

Some $750m were lost at the Baltimore office.

Minister McCreevy said that the anti-fraud systems in the bank would now have to be examined.

AIB officials and the Taoiseach have moved to reassure the public that the bank will not collapse.
