Finglas stabbing victim named locally

Two men were tonight in garda custody after a man was slashed across the throat and killed in Finglas, north Dublin.

The man, named locally as 36-year-old Noel Carney, was killed when he was attacked after a row with two men outside his home.

Gardai launched a murder hunt and later said they had arrested two men aged 19 and 27 in connection with the stabbing.

Emergency crews were called to a house in Ballygall Parade, in Finglas, at 11pm yesterday.

Detective Inspector John Mulligan, from Finglas gardai, said: ‘‘He had extensive injuries to his throat and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards at the scene.’’

He said two men were seen leaving the scene after an apparent row with the victim.

Deputy State Pathologist Marie Cassidy was called to the scene to examine the body ahead of a full post-mortem examination.

Forensics officers from the Garda Technical Bureau also began an investigation.

Police would not officially name the victim, who was believed to be a single man.

One neighbour described him as ‘‘harmless’’.

He added: ‘‘It’s appalling. The place has gone to bits.’’

The murder was the second in the area this month. On January 12, Robert Rodger, 25, died following another stabbing incident.

The two men are being detained at Finglas Garda Station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act, a police spokeswoman said.
