FARC deserter claims IRA links

A former member of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) has reportedly claimed that the IRA actively trains the rebel army, which has been fighting the Colombian Government for 38 years.

The deserter, known only as Alexander, has reportedly told Colombia’s attorney general that the IRA also transported weapons to FARC by plane in August 1999.

He also reportedly said that the three Irishmen arrested in Colombia last August accompanied the arms shipment on its way from Ireland to south America.

His claims have not been verified.
