The main opposition parties to the Government are calling for the Finance Minister, Charlie McCreevy, to rectify a loophole through which many people on low incomes have lost out on their eligibility for medical cards.

In the recent budget given by Mr McCreevy, the limits for medical card users were not raised in line with the increases in social welfare payments.
