Ireland not asked to join Afghan peacekeeping effort

Ireland’s has not yet received a formal request from the United Nations to participate in the peacekeeping force currently stationed in Afghanistan.

That’s according to Defence Minister Michael Smith, who said the Government is still willing to commit troops to such a mission.
