Gardai find body during missing persons search

Gardai investigating a missing persons case in Dublin have discovered a body at the Ninth Lock in west Dublin.

A garda spokesman said the body was found in a ditch near the Grand Canal in Clondalkin.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that the remains may be those of a 17-year-old Dublin man reported missing three years ago.

The youth, from nearby Palmerstown, hasn’t been seen since January 1999.

Gardai are treating the death as suspicious and forensic experts are currently examining the scene.
