Omagh convicted to be sentenced today

The Special Criminal Court will today pass sentence on the only man convicted in connection with the Omagh bomb, Louth man Colm Murphy.

45-year-old Murphy of Ravensdale, Dundalk, was found guilty on Tuesday of conspiracy to cause the bombing in August 1998.

He is expected to receive a heavy sentence.

However, he may have grounds for appeal over the safety of his conviction, following the comments by Justice Barr during his trial, who criticised two gardai who fabricated written notes after Murphy's interrogation.
