Gardai investigate Limerick drive-by shooting
Gardai in Limerick are investigating a drive-by shooting incident in the city last night.
Shots were fired from a moving van at a prison officer’s house on the Shelbourne Road in Limerick at around 10.45pm.
The same officer was targeted earlier this month when a hoax bomb was left outside his house, gardai said.
Another officer in the city recently fell victim to the attackers when his car was petrol bombed.
Shots were also fired over his house in a separate incident.
Gardai said today they were probing the shooting at the house at around 11pm. Nobody was injured and the attackers made their getaway in a van.
The latest incident has intensified fears that a criminal gang was using its contacts on the outside to launch a violent campaign of intimidation against prison officers in Limerick.
The Prison Officers’ Association has condemned the attacks.
