Labour slams plans to close Dun Laoghaire A&E unit

St Michael’s Hospital in Dun Laoghaire is reportedly planning to close its accident and emergency facility, according to the Labour Party.

Labour TD Eamon Gilmore said he has received reliable information that the unit is to close shortly, a move which would have serious implications for the south Dublin and north Wicklow areas.

Mr Gilmore called on the management of the hospital to clarify the reports and said the Government should be open about the matter.

He said it is unacceptable that the public should learn of proposed hospital cutbacks through second-hand information.
