FF TD settles debt with unpaid creditors
Fianna Fail TD John Ellis has said he and his brother, Caillian, have settled their financial dispute with the Irish Farmers Association.
Last November, the Ellis brothers reached agreement with the IFA for the payment of €150,000 to 80 creditors left unpaid when their company, Stanlow Trading, collapsed in 1986.
Some creditors were paid following the collapse, but around 80 farmers were left with unpaid invoices ranging in value from €254 to €26,665.
Reports this morning suggested that Mr Ellis would not be able to clear the debts by a noon deadline today, but the Sligo-Leitrim TD told Shannonside Radio that the matter has been resolved.
"As far as I’m concerned, this is the end of the saga that has gone on for 15 years," he said.
