Dingle man sentenced to life imprisonment

A 35-year old Dingle man was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court today after pleading guilty to the murder of a 19-year-old girl in 1999.

Gerard Graham, John St, Dingle Co Kerry, pleaded guilty to murdering Charlene McAuliffe in Cork on a date between October 2 or October 3, 1999.

Mr Justice Kearns sentenced the accused to the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment following a brief hearing.

The court heard that Ms McAuliffe, originally from Clondalkin in Dublin died after being "throttled in some way and choked to death".

An apology on behalf of Mr Graham was read to the court in which he expressed his remorse and deepest apology to the victim’s family.
