Ireland’s blood transfusion authorities were today urged to seek the aid of successful TV soap operas to avoid future supply crises.

The call came from a senior Dail backbench member of the Fianna Fail after the Irish Blood Transfusion Service advised hospitals to put off non-emergency surgery because of a critical shortage.
