Seas claim 50 lives in 2001

The number of pleasure craft getting into difficulty in the waters around Ireland increased last year, statistics showed today.

Irish Coastguard figures showed that 360 rescues were carried out to yachts and motor boats, but that there was a drop in calls for help from fishermen.
