Europol on alert for potential forged euro

Police forces throughout the European Union will remain on alert during the euro changeover tonight amid fears that criminals have prepared stashes of counterfeit euro notes for distribution while the public is unfamiliar with the new currency.

The gardai, along with their colleagues in the 11 other eurozone nations will stay in close contact with Europol throughout the changeover.
