Teenager killed in road accident named

Gardai have named the teenager who was knocked down and killed as she walked along the main Cork to Waterford road last night.

She was Gemma Savage from Upper Hill in Cobh.

The 18-year-old died in hospital after being struck by a car near Midleton.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old man who was found on the side of the road in Oranmore, Co Galway has still to be named.

He is believed to have been the victim of a hit-and-run attack.

These latest deaths bring the number of people killed on the roads so far this year to 396.
