Govt appoints five people to IMMA board

The Government has appointed five people to the board of the Irish Museum of Modern Art following a spate of recent resignations over the process for selecting a new director at the museum.

Arts Minister Sile de Valera announced the appointments this evening, while also dismissing allegations that she interfered in the process of selecting a director.

Yesterday, it was reported that politicians purporting to speak for the minister approached the IMMA chairperson, Marie Donnelly, in an attempt to block the appointment of Dr Brian Kennedy as director.

These politicians told Ms Donnelly that the minister would view Dr Kennedy’s selection as “controversial”.
