There was uproar in the Dail today when Fine Gael's justice spokesman Alan Shatter was ruled out of order after trying to raise the re-imprisonment of Dublin West TD Liam Lawlor.

Deputy Shatter called on the Taoiseach to make a statement on the jailing of a member of the Oireachtas for the second time.

He said Deputy Lawlor had shown contempt to both the Dail and the courts by his failure to comply fully with orders from Justice Fergus Flood.

The Ceann Comhairle said Deputy Shatter was not allowed to raise such matters during the Order of Business and threatened him with expulsion if he attempted to bring it up again.
