Christian Brothers say funds were never transferred to charity
The worldwide leader of the Christian Brothers has said that no money or assets were ever transferred to an account in Ireland following the sale of assets in Canada.
Brother Edmund Garvey made the comments in response to recent allegations than an Irish charity was used to hold funds raised during payment of abuse claims against Canadian Brothers.
It had been claimed they possessed assets worth $100m but the Christian Brothers have said that figure was much less. They also say the Irish Charity, Richmond Newstreet, never received funds for any reason.
Brother Garvey has said “these are indisputable facts” and anyone who suggests otherwise is being “untrue and unjust”. He has also reiterated that nothing in his statement is meant to distract in any way form the horror of the child abuse that took place.
