Dispute over beet prices ends after farmers accept deal

The dispute between the Irish Farmers Association and Irish Sugar has ended after the farmers voted to accept an agreement on sugar beet prices.

The deal was accepted during a meeting of around 500 beet growers in Cahir, Co Tipperary, early this morning. Under the package, farmers will get an extra €1.50 per tonne for their product this year and a further 90 cents increase next year, subject to beet quality.
