Anti-war movement mounts anti-Blair protest

A small group of anti-war demonstrators has gathered outside Dublin Castle to protest against British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s continued attacks on Afghanistan.

Mr Blair is in Dublin today for a meeting of the British-Irish Council. Rory Hearne, a spokesman for the Irish Anti-War Movement, said the group arranged today’s protest because of the West’s massacres in Afghanistan.

"We’ve seen thousands of people massacred there already by the US and British bombing," he said.

"It’s left Afghanistan in a mess. There’s a massive humanitarian crisis over in Afghanistan at the moment and they’re now talking about spreading their ‘war on terrorism’ to Iraq, to Somalia. We think if people don’t stand up against them, they’re going to massacre thousands and maybe millions more."
