Public inquiry into Abbeylara welcomed by gardai

The Garda Representative Association is welcoming the prospect of a public inquiry into the Abbeylara siege.

Spokesman, JP Stone believes his members did the right thing on the day but accepts lessons will need to be learnt from the incident.

He added that his people have "been to hell and back" and have been tried by the media, especially television.

He said a lot of innocent people do not deserve this treatment, including the Carthy family, and the last thing the police wanted was to see the death of John Carthy.
