A Dubliner, who attacked an Italian teenager leaving him paralysed for life, has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years.

James Osborne, 31, originally from Forth Road, East Wall, admitted smashing a beer bottle over the head of the then 17-year-old Guido Nasi in Fairview Park in August 1999.

The attack happened when Mr Nasi, who was studying English in Dublin, chased a youth after his wallet had been stolen. He was left almost completely paralysed by the assault.
